"The event continues today until 7 p.m. and resumes on Sunday (August 31) from noon to 7 p.m. in the same location, culminating in a performance by ambitious local prog rockers Bend Sinister on the outdoor stage."

We use the simple present when an event is on a schedule. And present progressive to situations that describes what's happening right now or in the extended present.

  11. When you want to describe something that happens frequently, you can use simple present. Ex: At schools, everybody use nicknames to call each other. But, if you want to describe a situation that is happening right now, use present progressive. Ex: I'm working for Balluff.
